For more than a thousand years, pilgrims have enjoyed the fantastic traditional gastronomy that restaurants and taverns serve along the Camino de Santiago.

In the Codex Calixtinus (12thcentury), the French Monk Aymeric Picaud wrote that Galicia is “delightful because of its rivers, meadows, delicious orchards, good fruits and clair fountains. It is plenty of rye bread and cider, livestock and cattle, milk and honey and large and small fish.”

Throughout their stay in Galicia, the group will enjoy the popular gastronomy of each zone of the Camino, made with fresh and natural quality products.

Nutritionists recommend a high liquid and carbohydrate intake, because doing the Camino requires considerable effort, so we cannot forget vitamin and protein rich food. Pilgrims are advised to carry dried fruit (raisins, dried figs, nuts…) and chocolate. Bread, chorizo sausage and cheese are also great sources of energy. It is also essential to drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration, taking small sips regularly.
